I am…using my voice

Recently I wrote a letter to CVS. For two reasons the manager at a local store requested we let Corporate know how the store is understaffed. And two I experienced this first hand. There was only one cashier and she was also the manager. So guess what, I had a long wait in line to make my purchases. The cashier/manager was very apologetic about the delay. Oh, and did I mention it was Black Friday when there could be extra shoppers so more staffing might make sense.
I got a nice letter back stating they are immediately looking into the staffing situation. It had a real signature so I figure someone actually read my letter. Additional feedback was that my input will help their efforts to ensure my future shopping experiences are more pleasurable. How CVS has a commitment to service and that they appreciate the opportunity to address my concerns. As a token of their appreciation for my bringing this matter to their attention they enclosed a $5.00 CVS gift card.
Bottom line: I do hope they address the staffing issue at my local CVS. And I am happy I used my voice.

It feels like I live at the top of the world

I know I don’t but I feel closer to the sky. In April of this year I moved from the SF Bay Area to Cool, CA. From sea level to 1700 feet elevation. The last part of trip is up Highway 49 to Cool. The road levels out and space seems to open up with fields. There are no more big hills to climb. The sun shines brightly and I feel closer to the clouds. My heart sings. A smile comes over my face as I take in a deep breath and look skyward. I live off Highway 193 where I do some more climbing to the street where I live. Now though I am among trees, lots of deer and some wild turkey. It is very peaceful place to be. There are several horses and Hazel the donkey down the street. Though I don’t hear her bay. I haven’t seen a bear yet but they are around. Someone in our area left their kitchen window open to find a bear eating the dessert left on the counter. Rule is to keep all doors and windows shut at all times and our pets inside as well. During the hot summer days deer spend the day under the deck at the back of my house.
I feel it is the communing with nature that frees my spirit and makes me feel alive. More in tune and a feeling of feeding my soul. Here is a picture of deer that says peaceful to me. So is there something that makes you feel like you are living at the top of the world?
I am serene

How to participate without extra expense?

Cling On Moment

Cling On Moment

This year one of my clients decided to have an ugly sweater contest as part of their holiday celebration. I no longer own a Christmas sweater. What was I to do? I considered borrowing my mother’s sweater vest but forgot to pick it up when I visited her on Sunday before the event. The night before the party I got out my bag of holiday socks as I figured I would wear a pair at the party. Then I had a “cling on” moment. I remembered seeing a commercial on TV for dryer sheets to prevent socks and other clothing from clinging to each other. Thus an idea was born to pin my holiday socks on one of sweaters. I made my own ugly sweater. It turned out pretty cute and I was participating without any extra expense.

A fellow in the office used a clothes pin to attach his Christmas stocking at neck of his sweater. His name was on the stocking. Another clever idea. His won 2nd place. No, I didn’t win but I did participate in the fun.

How to see babies without being responsible for them?

Baby & adult gorilla

I met with a friend at SF Zoo. She was moving from San Francisco to Sonoma and we decided to get together to say good-bye. She hadn’t been to the zoo in years. I have a membership card and guest pass so it was free for both of us and turned into a fun afternoon. The weather was perfect. Sunny with very little wind.  The zoo wasn’t crowded as we went mid-week.

We saw three babies, the giraffe, gorilla and tiger. I felt really lucky. First was the baby giraffe named Erin who was outside eating leaves hung from a pole. Next we walked past the gorilla compound. The baby kept walking in and out of the building they sleep in. Then we went over to the Lion House. The mother tiger and baby were outside. Baby who is named Jillian was sitting right next to Plexiglas window. The closest I have ever been to her. Then I went to see my grandson. I feel like I got up close to all these babies and especially close to my grandson. I got to hold him. And did you see that as my title says I got to see babies without being responsible for them.  A fun day.
