National Cat Day

Cat Day was first created by Colleen Paige, a strong animal welfare advocate, to bring attention to the plight of the domestic cat. It was meant to be a way of bringing awareness to the number of homeless cats.

I read that shortly after inception, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals adopted Cat Day as an opportunity to get people to adopt pets. With such a day they could bring attention to the number of animals that have been rescued during the

year and the problem and possible solution to feral cat colonies.

How to celebrate National Cat day. That is easy. Hug your furry friend. I have two. And both are black with green eyes. And if you don’t have one think about adopting. That is how I got my two. Their owner was moving from California to Italy and brought them to the local humane society. If you are considering adopting think about a older cat as the kittens are easy to adopt. My two were four years old when I got them. A female named Jasmine and male named Elliot. He is a big guy at 19 pounds and loves to get on the bed and lay on my chest. Which I let him do for a little while. Another way to celebrate is to take them to a groomer or veterinarian if they haven’t been in a while. I took Jasmine for a bath once and they were unable to give her one so I won’t be doing that again. They gave her dry bath instead. Feed them a treat. Mine get a couple of Greenies each night for their teeth. They love them especially Jasmine when she hears me shake the bag

she cries, sits up appears excited. Wherever she is she wants to get down on the floor in a hurry. I am happy to bring them to her and yet she just has to get down on the floor. She can’t sit still.

Bottom line just love them.

If you want to read a nice book about cats I recommend Rescue Cats by Susannah Maynard. All the cats in the book as you can guess from the title have been rescued. You see a picture of the cat and story about them. She also has a book called Rescue Dogs.
