How to Spend the First Saturday in October

I attended Portfest in Redwood City

Yesterday was the 3rd annual Portfest celebration. I got there in time to watch the 8-person shell races in the Redwood City Channel. The Redwood City Planning Commission won the 2 out of 3 races. That is the red team in my photo. There were 3 other shells one for Redwood City Council and others being teams from San Mateo & Foster City.

Then I went on a trolley ride out to see more of the Port of Redwood City. It was called a working waterfront tour. We rode through Sims Metal Management company property. What a huge operation. They are the world’s largest recycling company which started in Australia by in 1917. Also saw Cemex concrete company.

The event also included lots of food vendors and live music from groups like Sequoia High School Jazz band and Headliner band “The Groove Kings”. An added bonus the weather was beautiful.

Hope you ever able to get out and enjoy your weekend.
