I am Upbeat

And I am not just saying that because today is Friday or the end of the week. Life is an attitude. How we look at our day can be upbeat. Here are a couple of mental health tips to help one stay upbeat.

Keep Moving. Get exercise every day. Could be a trip to the gym, taking a walk, doing some sit ups in your bedroom at home. All this keeps the feel-good brain chemistry active.

Practice Gratitude. You can start each day with thinking about something you are grateful for. You could even keep a “gratitude notebook”. Take a few moments each day to write down one or two things you are grateful for. Focus on what you have vs. what you are missing.

I let go of the need for approval

If we have a need for approval then we have low self-esteem. Low self-esteem may come from experiences in childhood like lack of positive feedback as a child and sense of neglect as a child.

Let’s look for a couple of steps to reduce the need for approval. 1) Develop a list of the positive attributes you possess. 2) Create positive affirmations to use on a regular basis. Examples would be I am…enough. I am…talented. I am…creative.

Why did I choose “Daily Musings” for my blog title?

I am wondering that now as I have to come up with something to write about each day. My original reasoning was to build up my presence on the google search. There is a gal who makes jewelry out of hemp and her name comes up 5th when searching. I figured “daily” comes alphabetically before” jewelry “ so I might be able to have my name come up more than she does.

Using the word “daily” to me means I need to have a blog posted each and every day. Thus finding Positive Thoughts to blog about is what I do. I have tied them to my “I am” and “Letting Go” cards. Or I find fun things happening to post about like Chocolate Cupcake Day or Talk Like a Pirate Day. I like to add quotes that relate to my topic. Some days that is easy and other days not so much. The searching for quotes has provided some interesting reading and thought provoking insights. So all and all it has been a benefit to me.

I let go of hoarding

This is Today’s Positive Thought. The quotes I found below brought a whole new light to the idea of hoarding. Holding onto information and not just stuff is also a form of hoarding.

I am more familiar with the following definition in relationship to things. A hoarder cannot make rational decisions about what is useful and what is not. A hoarder is usually unaware of anything being wrong.  Someone who clutters feels concern about things accumulating.

I am…reading.

Actually I just finished reading “Affirmations”-(How to Expand Your Personal Power & Take Back Control of Your Life) by Stuart Wilde. I have read lots of books about affirmations in support of my creating two sets of affirmation cards. I always learn something new from what others think about using affirmations. Reading is a source of greater depth in my learning.

My title for today’s daily musings was dedicated to looking for inspiration. I consider this book one that could inspire the reader to all the possibilities in their life. This is a self help book where he gives you steps to follow and even includes affirmations to use.

Pet Sitting

I am…pet sitting.

I have been for several months. The cat I am taking care of is staying at my house. This makes it easier than traveling to take care of a pet. Her name is Marzie. She is a talker. I hear her first thing in the morning when I walk into my kitchen. So I generally eat my oatmeal while sitting next to her and brushing her fur. She talks non stop until I have been brushing her for several minutes. I am her current best friend. Oh, and she has soft fur maybe from all my brushing.

I let go of arrogance.

Arrogance that would be an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner. Doesn’t sound like anyone I would want to work with! Yesterday I wrote about working together in a harmonious manner and today working with someone who is full of themselves/arrogant would not be fun. I am imagining that the project we set out to accomplish wouldn’t come together as quickly or easily.

Being part of a team and working together for a common goal where we agree in action and feeling can make us a harmonious group. Isn’t it pleasant to work with others when we are in harmony?

I let go of quarreling.

To me it feels like a lot of wasted energy when continuing to quarrel. It is exhausting work quarreling.

I let go of feeling unworthy.

How to release feeling unworthy: Here are a couple of steps. Don’t stay locked into the past. Since you feel unworthy based on how people have reacted towards you. Your mind will keep repeating pictures of that feeling from the past. When these thoughts appear, don’t give them energy. Let them say float on by and instead focus on being present in the now. Another step, try a new approach to your next encounter where you feel unworthy. Stretch beyond your comfort zone. If even just a little. Keep at it as you’re headed toward feeling better/happy.
